The next race is here and it's going to be intense. In 2019, we embarked on the Peking to Paris rally and had an adventure of a lifetime. It was a long, and humbling experience to see the world from a 1968 Porsche 912. Now, in just three weeks we are back at it in another vintage four cylinder beast and this time our quest is in Baja California, Mexico. On November 18, 2021 Team FOURTILLFOUR #1144 will set out to race a dozen other stock Volkswagen bugs (Class 11) in the 2021 SCORE International Baja 1000 from Ensenada to La Paz. A flat-out, 1,200 mile race on the most intense off-road terrain. The only thing stopping us is the 50-hour time limit.
The Race
The Baja 1000 is the most grueling and dangerous race in North America. It takes a team of drivers, co-drivers, navigators, support and logistics to go nonstop for over one thousand miles to the finish line. Compared to the competitors in the other Baja 1000 classes, the Class 11 stock Volkswagen Bugs are underdogs of the race. While the Pro Level, Moto/ATV, and Sportsman Class competitors may have more horsepower and technologically advanced set-ups, racing a Class 11 stock VW bug epitomizes the spirit of Baja and the purity of the grueling competition. A race of this sort embodies the core tenants of Fourtillfour – vintage off-road adventure.
